Minnesota Disaster Areas

USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the addition of six Minnesota counties to the national natural disaster area list.
The announcement, made October 8, adds Kittson, Koohiching, Lake of the Woods, Marshall, Pennington and Roseau to the list because of losses from the combination of snow, rain, flooding, flash flooding and cool temperatures from April 1- June 30, 2009.
“President Obama and I understand there conditions caused by severe damage to the area and serious harm to the farms in Minnesota and we want to help. This action will provide help to hundreds of farmers who suffered significant production losses to alfalfa, barley, canola, corn, oats, rye, soybeans, sunflowers, wheat and forage crops,” Vilsack said in a statement.
Farm operators in Minnesota-Beltrami, Clearwater, Itasca, Polk, Red Lake and St. Louis and in North Dakota-Grand Forks, Pembina and Walsh also qualify because they are continuous disaster areas.
