The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has given seven on-farm research and demonstration projects $100,000.
The three-year projects are meant to increase farm profits, improve farm family’s lives and improve the environment.
The winners are doing research using cherry, blackberry, organic mushroom and hops crops. The research also includes a variety of other fruit and vegetable crops.
One group, the Association for the Advancement of Hmong Women in Minnesota is trying to reduce the amount pesticide used my Hmong and other immigrant farmers by training the farmers with more advanced, eco-friendly techniques.
