Sen. Bruce Whitehead, D-Hesperus, was awarded the 2010 Pinnacle Award from the Colorado Farm Bureau. The award is in honor of Whitehead’s support of the agricultural community during the 2010 legislative session.
The honor is distributed every year to legislators who “go above and beyond the call of duty to promote Colorado’s agricultural interests,” according to a news release. “This is evident through their sponsorship and co-sponsorship of bills, their leadership in defending and advocating on behalf of Colorado agriculture, their cooperation with the industry, and their voting record on Farm Bureau priority issues.”
The bureau takes greatest interest in water issues, agricultural property tax issues and private property rights. Whitehead is most notable for his knowledge of water policies which is highly important for the agricultural industry.
Whitehead worked for the Colorado Division of Water Resources for 25 years before entering the Senate.
During the 2010 legislative session Whitehead was the chairman of the Senate and Natural Resource Committee. However, on Nov. 2 Whitehead was defeated by Rep. Ellen Roberts, R-Durango, for his seat.
