Kansas farmers and farm organizations recent released a statement praising outgoing ranking member of the Senate Agriculture Committee Pat Roberts.
Since 2011, Roberts has represented Kansas on the Senate Agriculture Committee, serving as the committee’s ranking member. Despite intense partisan bickering in the Senate, Roberts was known for his willingness to reach across the aisle to work with Democrats on the ag committee. Thanks to his and Debbie Stabenow’s hard work, the Senate was able to pass a bipartisan farm bill that met many of the needs of the farm community while simultaneously cutting spending.
According to the head of the Kansas Grain and Feed Association, “Roberts’ replacement as minority member is a reflection only of seniority rules. Stabenow and Roberts have been one of the few shining lights in D.C. over the past couple years. I have been working with Roberts since the 80s on farm policy. He has always been great for Kansas, especially Kansas agriculture. It is easy to be proud and trust your senator, when your senator is Pat Roberts.”
Roberts was replaced as the ranking member of the ag committee by Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochron, who invoked seniority to take Roberts’ position.
