Despite the growing trend in other states, Colorado farmers are hiring less foreign workers to work on their operations.
Last year Colorado applied for 13 percent less foreign work visas compared to 2007.
In 2008 Colorado 336 producers requested H-2A visas for 2,831 workers and this year only 258 farmers have applied for 2,498 visas.
The Department of Labor and Employments’ Larry Lemmons said the reason is that many Colorado residents are now willing to take seasonal jobs working on farms.
